FLYING GLASSHOUSE WITH AN AQUARIUM INSIDE

Flying Glasshouse (with an aquarium inside)
2012
Olfactory–acoustic scenario

Humans have long dreamed of domesticating nature: this sculpture is a caricature of such desires. ‘Flying Glasshouse (with an aquarium inside)’ is a sculpture suspended high in the gallery comprising a greenhouse and an aquarium filled with glass-cleaning liquid – both purchased from an on-line DIY store. A glass greenhouse is a place to incubate plants in the domestic garden; an aquarium brings the ocean into the living room. Emitting from the centre of this sculpture is a symphony composed from the sounds of piano wire moving through space and breaking glass with the aroma of the chemical fluid used to clean glass.
